Athena Monde is a character that appeared in Bakugan: Evolutions. She is the deuteragonist of Bakugan: Evolutions. She first appeared in Evolutions Unleashed! Part 1. She is a Human from the planet Earth and a member of the Elemental Brawlers. Her Guardian Bakugan is Pyrus Blitz Fox
Appearance[]
Athena has blonde hair with two pink dyed strands and azure blue eyes with red glasses.
In episode 1, in her first appearance Athena wears a different uniform, the uniform of the Elemental brawlers, it's two different shades of grey, and white with the academy's crest on it.
In episode 1 she was shown on the news wearing the school's uniform - a sailor style uniform, with red details, the school's crest, a blue tie, grey trousers and brown boots. This is her main outfit.
She is seen wearing her gym uniform in episode 3 - A black and grey tracksuit top with a red zip and the school's crest on it, matching trousers and red and white trainers.
In episode 5 of Evolutions, we see Athena in casual clothes for the first time - A dark grey cardigan, white shirt with brown buttons, a red skirt and brown shoes.
In all of her outfits but her casual one Athena is always seen wearing a bag that holds her gatecards around her waist.
Personality[]
Athena has so far been shown to be quite confident, mainly in her brawling abilities but also when it comes to speaking up, almost overconfident as she says how she's going to be the best elemental brawler ever, however quick to anger when Dan calls her out on how she's not the best yet. She has been shown to be quite full of herself and rude, especially towards Dan Kouzo who she appears to have a dislike of. She also appears to be afraid of dogs. Athena lying in episode three rather than telling on the Awesome Brawlers showed how she's a lot nicer than she appeared at first, she also appears conflicted as she doesn't understand that there's more to being strong than simply studying. She's been shown to be quite emotional.
Athena is encouraging, helpful and caring towards those she works with and helps out such as Lia and Wynton. She holds a strong respect for the teachers at the academy too.
Biography[]
In her debut episode Evolutions unleashed, Athena appears as a member of the Elemental Brawlers, she is the only member who is not an adult. Athena puts the drome up and then rolls out with Sage Bliss and Omnivia Sykes. After they contain the damage and help some people to get away from the danger, Dan goes up to them and calls their outfits pyjamas and asks if they're trying to look like TV superheroes, Athena is quick to get mad over this and tell him "It's called a uniform." then proceeds to add "We don't need some internet clown getting in our way." Dan doesn't seem to understand she's calling him the internet clown and quickly goes to Drago's defense, after realising she meant him he walks off angrily and kicks a Ryerazu in the head thinking it's a rock. Once it's been defeated and Athena seals off the elemental energy Athena and the other Elemental Brawlers leave. It's then shown on the news that they've been going everywhere elemental energy overloads are and defeating them. After Drago and the other Bakugan have returned and elementally evolved Dan calls the Elemental Brawlers to the practice field to battle with them. Athena is both shocked and angry when she realises the AB sent in a false report to lure them there. She's then suprised when she discovers their Bakugan are elemental. During the battle against the Awesome Brawlers Athena makes fun of them and calls them ametures for not knowing how to control their elemental attacks. After Sykes, Professor K and Faustrus brought out their Nanogan and defeated everyone in the AB but Dan with them and their Bakugan, Dan asks Athena why she didn't call out her nanogan, her answer is "Because I can easily beat you without it." However within a couple minutes Athena decides to bring her Nanogan out, and Dan somehow manages to also summon one. After she's told to stop, she calls back both her Nanogan and her Bakugan but still seems angry with Dan. When Faustrus is telling Dan that him summoning Dragoniods nanogan by himself was impressive, Athena tries to argue it wasn't by calling it an accident, then while Faustrus introduces the AB to Athena, she tries to pretend she hadn't been glaring at them, she then proceeds to be the only member of the Elemental Brawlers to be angry at the AB after everyone's been introduced.
In episode two (Elemental Brawling Unleashed part 2) Athena is seen battling Omnivia Sykes, who is blindfolded. Athena seems suprised to lose, then Sykes tells her "Your attacks are strong Athena, but extremely predictable.". Athena seems irritated by this and tells Sykes that she won't lose next time. Later when the elemental energy overload starts up at the academy and Dan tells the Elemental Brawlers they should leave the battle to them, Athena laughs and comments "The awesome brawlers? You can't even handle your elemental Bakugan.". While fighting the Bakugan, Athena agrees with Blitzfox when she calls the Bakugan strong but then adds that they can still do this, and an elemental core appears. Later when the AB try to warn the Elemental Brawlers about how they're just feeding the Bakugan energy by attacking it like that, all of them including Athena ignore them leading to them all getting defeated which Athena is suprised about. After the AB try to take town the Bakugan and fail, they decide to ask the Elemental Brawlers for help which they agree to give. After Dan and Drago succeed in defeating it Athena is still the only one of the Elemental Brawlers who doesn't seem to like the AB, correcting Dan when he says he did it with the help of his friends and protesting "There's no way!" When Falstus tells her they all can learn something from Dan and the rest of the AB then turning away from everyone in both groups.
In the episode Bakugan Academy, Athena interupts a conversation between the Awesome Ones and the gym teacher, she introduces herself as Athena Monde and talks about how she's going to be number one and how she's the best elemental brawler. She doesn't seem to like Dan all that much and constantly insults him. When the headteacher suggests her and Dan battle she is quick to accept, although adding that she'll end the battle quickly so she can get back to class, as she doesn't want to miss that day's lesson. During the battle against Dan, Athena says that when it calls to elemental brawling her and her Bakugan partner Blitxfox are the best, she then calls Dan a joke as he isn't able to evolve his Bakugan or summon a Nanogan. After Athena wins the battle against Dan she goes on to insult him again saying how no one in the academy is at her level when it comes to brawling they are still more powerful than Dan is and that he's no match for them.
In the episode Lightning's place, Athena is doing some early morning training when Howlkor sees her, she has a conversation with Howlkor about why Lightning is sleeping outside then when Lightning wakes up she expresses a fear of him and runs off. She proceeds to tell Mr Barnstaple about how Lightning is sleeping outdoors. When Lightning runs she chases after him and at one point would've caught him if she hadn't have gotten scared at the last moment. Later she explains one of the academy's rules to the Awesome Brawlers and during the battle between Lightning and Mr Barnstaple she understands Dan's explanation of Lightning's behaviour, she then seems suprised when Lightning summons a Nanogan. At the end of the episode she is confused and then panicked when she discovers that Lightning is her roommate, saying "I've changed my mind, he can go sleep wherever he likes so please get Lightning out of my room!" After that when Howlkor and Mr Barnstaple ask if she's scared of dogs, she tries to deny it while still clearly being scared.
In the episode A new studio D is born, Athena is seen in her dorm room studying but struggling to concentrate due to the noise from the battle going on outside. Not too long after, she witnesses Dan and Wynton running away with a skeleton they just stole. Later while the Awesome Brawlers are celebrating their new studio D - Studio B - Athena shows up and after realising the group had been taking academy property to make "a secret little place for themselves" she threatens to tell the teachers. After getting into an argument with Dan the two decide to battle, where Athena makes Dan promise that if he loses, him and the rest of the Awesome Brawlers have to leave the academy, Athena agrees to Dan's condition that if she loses she has to forget what she saw. The battle begins, when Blitzfox's winning attack from their last battle doesn't knock out Drago, Athena grows frustrated, saying she just can't lose and she has to be number one. She then gets an elemental core and evolves Blitzfox into strength mode, at first she seems suprised at actually evolving Blitzfox but then she gains confidence. Athena asks Dan why he doesn't just accept defeat as isn't leaving the academy what he really wants and says to not worry about the elemental storm as strong brawlers like her can deal with it. After Dan evolves Drago, Athena gets frustrated quickly but calms down again after Blitzfox speaks with her, she then goes on to win the brawl, however when the headmaster shows up instead of telling him what the Awesome Brawlers had done she lies and tells him that they were battling as practice and that as they broke the rules by doing so she will go and apologize to Mr Barnstaple tomorrow. At the end of the episode Falcrus suggests that there's more to becoming stronger isn't just about studying and he asks if she understands what he means, to which Athena admits she really doesn't understand at all.
At the beginning of episode 6 part 1 Magnus is back Athena is shown in class becoming annoyed when she hears Dan snoring in the back. When Magnus says to demonstrate his power he'll have to battle someone Athena is quick to volenteer mentioning her status as the academy's top student. When Magnus chooses Dan instead she tries to protest but is shut down quickly. When the battle between Dan and Magnus is interrupted by an alarm going off, Athena is the first to know what's going on, reading off her phone how an elemental energy overload has been detected near the academy. When Dan tries to volenteer himself and the rest of the Awesome Brawlers to help Athena, Callie, Chet and Magnus and gets told they're not ready yet, Athena smirks and tells them "You stay, we'll handle it" and runs off after the other three. When they arrive at the place Athena takes the role of leader and gives a few instructions to Callie and Chet, however the three are overwhelmed by the power of the Bakugan they are fighting. After Magnus takes over the battle from all three of them and wins, Athena seems shocked by his and Nillious's power and then seems irritated while Magnus is explaining the evolution then sad when Falstrus declares they all need to learn speed form as fast as possible.
In episode 6 part 2 Athena's wish. We first see Athena and Blitzfox battling against Lia and Pegatrix for training, Athena accuses Lia of going easy on her causing Wynton to comment how she "always goes all out, even when she's only training too.". After Athena fails to evolve Blitzfox into speed mode and begins to grow furious, Lia suggests taking a break, Athena then mentions she'll have to find someone else to battle her if Lia won't and looks up at Wynton who quickly deflects the attention from himself. Once Lia asks why Athena's always trying so hard, Athena recalls part of an old conversation then replies, "I do it so I can be the best.." and walks away. Apparently, Athena walks to the battle training field as she arrives there just in time to see Dan evolve Drago into speed mode, she instantly challenges him to a battle, after Dan declines the battle saying they were just going to eat lunch, Athena asks if he's scared he'll lose to her again, this accusation makes Dan forget about lunch and agree to battle her. During the battle against Dan, Athena grows increasingly angered and accuses Dan of teasing her by refusing to evolve Drago into speed mode just because he got there first. After launching an attack, Athena yells that she'll prove to Dan that she is number one, to which Dan asks why she's so obsessed with being number one, Athena replies back with "Because the fate of the world rests in my hands." And goes into a flashback, explaining how because she was so good at everything she did, people didn't like her and she never had any friends, she was always alone and no one could understand how she felt. Then one day she met Falstrus and he told her that the world would be in need of her talent someday. It then timeskipped to the day she met Blitzfox and they partnered up as they both wanted to be the strongest to save the world. Once the flashback ends the battle resumes, Athena tries to evolve Blitzfox into speed mode but fails and evolves her into strength mode instead. Because of this Athena becomes overcome with elemental rage causing her and Blitzfox to both become relentless in the battle, taking no breaks between their attacks. Luckily, Magnus jumps in and ends the battle, Athena falls to the ground seeming exhausted. The next day, Athena and Blitzfox are sitting on some steps talking about the battle the day before and how they'd lost control of themselves when Lia runs over to her, after hearing Athena's feeling better Lia tells her everyone was worried about her, Athena seems suprised by this and asks "Everyone?" As if she doesn't believe it, Lia confirms what she said. At the very end, Athena watches as Dan fails to evolve Drago into speed mode and get annoyed about it, she then realises she was really wrong and asks "He didn't really refuse to use speed mode did he?" Lia tells her he would never do something like that, Dan's always straightforward and hates to lose, then adds how him and Athena actually have a lot in common. Suprisingly, Athena laughs and agrees, "Yeah, I don't like to lose either." and walks over to Dan still laughing.
After not appearing in episode seven, Athena is seen at the start of episode eight (part 1) battling against Chad. The Awesome Brawlers then speak to Magnus and Athena who reveal while they were away Athena got Blitz Fox to evolve and gained enough strength and experience to coach the other students, Athena tells the AB that she'd be happy to teach them too, if they think they can handle her training regime. Even though Wynton and Lia seem excited to take up her offer, Dan declines it on the behalf of everyone in his team, saying he'll teach them. However after he fails to teach them anything Lia seeks out Athena to ask for her help with learning to evolve. Athena tells her she doesn't mind teaching her, when Lia asks if she's serious, Athena replies with, "I'm teaching the others because that's what the headmaster told me to do. He asked me to instruct everyone so their Bakugan will be able to evolve." Not too long after we see Lia struggling to evolve Pegatrix and to summon an elemental core, Athena tells her that the reason she's failing is because she's getting flustered, then asks why Lia's in such a rush to evolve anyway, Lia tells her how being back home made her realise how much she loves being there and how much she doesn't want to lose it, then Pegatrix adds how they think the Elemental Asylum teaching brawlers how to elementally evolve could become another threat. Lia agrees with what Pegatrix said and tells Athena "That's why I want to perfect strength mode as soon as possible. So that I can protect everything I love." Blitzfox comments on this and how the words sound familiar (Assumingly to something Athena once said), Athena glares at Blitz Fox then tells Lia "The day is almost over, let's keep going." Later on, the Awesome Brawlers walk into the training area Lia and Athena are practicing in just in time to see Lia sucessfully evolve Pegatrix into strength mode. Seeing this Dan gets angered at Lia for going to train with Athena but that anger is quickly diverted towards the blonde after she tells him Lia came to her because he couldn't teach her anything. While Dan grows increasingly frustrated, Athena offers to help the others in the AB, Shun and Wynton show excitement at this but once again Dan shuts them down saying there's no way, this leads to Ajit telling Shun that Dan's too stubborn to back down after telling Magnus he'd teach them all himself. Athena hears that and tells Dan that him being stubborn for no reason is childish and calls him a joke, Dan challenges Athena to a battle, with the stake of the winner getting to be Lia's teacher, Lia tells Dan it's not his desicion but Athena accepts his challenge. So the two battle. At somepoint between the two agreeing to battle and actually starting the battle, Magnus shows up and joins Ajit, Wynton, Shun, Lia and Lightning in watching the battle. After Athena chooses to summon a nanogan rather than use evolution, Magnus tells the AB how Athena's holding back, Lia also realised this and adds how if Athena had used evolution the battle would've already been over. When both Dan and Athena get elemental cores at the same time, Magnus comments how "By evolving at the same time as Dan Kouzo she'll show him clearly how big the gap between their power level is." Once Athena evolves Blitzfox into speed mode and Dan accidentally evolved Drago into strength mode, Athena quickly wins the battle, after the battle Athena tells Dan he got what he deserved by playing stupid games and calls him a joke again. Then reminds him she won the bet and he's not to interfere with her training ever again. As Dan angrily storms out, Athena calls for Lia to keep training.
At the start of episode eight part two, we see Athena and Lia talking to a teacher, then following him to where Falstrus is telling them, Callie, Chet, China Riot, Chad, Magnus and other teachers about an elemental energy attack that they're all going to try and supress. Dan arrives and asks why Lia's included in the group who are being allowed to go since Falstrus said he's only taking those who have mastered both speed and strength evolutions. Lia agrees with Dan's question and admits she hasn't actually mastered speed mode yet, Falstrus then tells them all that "Athena vouched for her, she wanted Lia to get some experience in the field." When Dan seems suprised by this, Athena says it's because "She has the strength and talent to handle it." While in the aircraft on their way to the elemental energy eruption point, Athena and Lia both watch out the window to try and see where it is, once they get to the scene on the ground, the pair talk to the brawler of the Bakugan that'd gone rouge then put up the drome and begin fighting the Bakugan. Both Athena and Lia watch helpless as the brawler is taken over by the same elemental energy that infected his Bakugan. After the rest of the Awesome Brawlers show up Lia and Athena are told field training is cancelled as the situation is too dangerous, Falstrus himself then rolls out his Bakugan and takes control of the battle against the rampaging Bakugan. Towards the end of the episode, Athena comments how the power of Falstrus and his Bakugan is incredible and how she can't just stand back and watch, two elemental cores appear and Athena tells Lia "This was supposed to be our field training, let's finish the job." The two both evolve their Bakugan into speed mode and together they defeat the rampaging Bakugan. After being reminded by Lia, Athena puts down the drone. Lia then thanks Athena for helping her learn to use speed mode, to which Athena replies with "Don't thank me, it was all because of your hard work."
Athena appears in episode nine but doesn't play much of a part in the events, she seemed suprised by the amount of people and bakugan the Awesome Brawlers know who they ran into, such as Falcron, Crystal Blue and Fenneca. She was also suprised about how strong Falcron was despite not being elementally evolved.
In episode ten part two Athena is seen training with Lia as Lia finally masters speed mode. Lia thanks her for teaching her, Athena doesn't acknowledge the thanks, likely because of what she said in episode eight about it being all because of Lia's hard work, and tells Lia that she's (Athena) still got a long way to go and that their training is just getting started, they both continue the battle. Athena is later seen watching the battle between Dan and Magnus, she calls Dan a clown multiple times, at one point saying "The difference between their power is clear, Dan really is the ultimate clown.". It's mentioned by Shun that Dan is letting what Magnus and Athena have been saying rattle him which is affecting his preformance in battle. This is shown to be true as when Dan tries to forget about their words and just focus on the battle he masters speed mode, which suprises Athena. She later is shown to be impressed by the power of Drago's speed mode.
In episode 12 part 1, Athena is one of the six students Sage Bliss took to the Bakugan festival, after Miss Bliss explains what the festival is good for Athena adds that "Some people think Bakugan are dangerous because of the elemental storm, so an event like this is important." Miss Bliss tells her she's right about that and how they'll all be participating in a three on three brawl as part of the festival, Athena asks why she chose them specifically, when Bliss tells her and the others she chose them because that's what her inner voice said to do, Athena and the other five there all are confused and embarrassed as everyone around is watching what their teacher is doing. Shortly after Athena is shown having a talk with Dan and Wynton, who she's been grouped up with for the three on three brawl. Dan and Athena have a disagreement on why they have to discuss strategy rather than go have fun, after Wynton attempts to diffuse the situation by saying how it's only an exibition match so it should be fun and they don't need to be serious about it, which just annoys Athena even more and she responds with "A brawl is a brawl period.". Later when Athena's team is about to face off againt Lia, Riot and Crystal, Sophie arives, Athena asks if Dan, Wynton and Lia know her. After Sophie says how Bakugan have had their freedom taken away, Blitzfox is confused and tells Athena she doesn't remember having her freedom stolen and says that she chose to partner with her of her own free will, Athena tells Blitzfox that she knows but that there are some people who can't see that. Athena is shocked when Miss Bliss agrees with Sophie. When their Bakugan are battling without their partner's instructions, Wynton is impressed by how Blitzfox can move and complements Athena on her training, but Athena doesn't seem to hear him and just takes notes on her tablet while talking aloud "I see now, that's the way Blitzfox prefers to move, it certainly does achieve better results.". Wynton comments how even at a time like this she's studying and Athena tells him that now is the best time to study as she doesn't get the chance to see Blitzfox battle like this everyday, then adds how she really wants to understand her better as doing that is sure to help both of them get much stronger.
In episode 12 part 2 Wynton goes to Athena to ask for help learning how to evolve his Bakugan, during their training battle Athena tells Wynton how he suprises her, when Wynton asks why Athena tells him it's "Because I always thought you were way less serious than you are." Wynton accepts this and tells her that while he does like to joke around now and then Bakubattling is different. After Wynton evolves Trox and they both sit down and say how tired they feel, Athena tells them they've only done it once and they'll have to train with her and Lia everyday from now on, when Lia mentions the email she got about a school wide battle Athena explains what it's about to both Lia and Wynton and asks if the three should all sign up. The next day before Wynton and Chad battle Athena yells at Dan for calling out bad advice to Wynton, when Dan is suprised that Wynton can evolve to strength mode Athena tells him that Wynton was a really good student. Later after Wynton is considering giving up, sure he'll lose after Chad evolved to speed mode both Athena and Dan call out at the same time "Don't give up!" and tell him there's got to be another way to fight back even in strength mode and tell him he's got this. After Wynton manages to both fight back in strength mode and then evolve into speed mode, Athena and Dan both again yell at the same time happily "He did it!". At the end of the battle Athena and Dan get into an argument after Dan says Wynton won thanks to his advice and Athena tells him it was because of Wynton's hard work. Later on when Dan asks why Athena is at studio B, Wynton tells him that he invited her and calls them similar (like Lia did in episode 6 part 2) and mentions how he thinks they could be really good friends. Both Dan and Athena seem put off by this idea and Athena tells them she didn't come here to make friends and that she came there to talk about something, she then asks about the elemental asylum, after Ajit tells her that he thought they had figured out who it was but they were wrong and that they need to stop them right away and Wynton agrees, Athena mentions she has been suspecting someone for a while, Magnus. Dan gets really defensive of Magnus and argues that they know Magnus and that it wouldn't be him, Athena argues back saying that because they know him they're not looking at it objectively. Wynton tries to diffuse the situation but Dan accuses him of taking Athena's side and stalks off to go find Magnus and prove Athena wrong by proving his innocence.

- Dan Kouzo - Athena’s relationship with Dan has been very bad from the first time they met in the first episode of bakugan evolutions. When Dan first met her, she called him an internet clown and showed her dislike of him Dan battled Athena in episodes 3 5 8 and 13 and then lost Everytime he battles her. Athena Tells him how worthless he is when battling ,calling him a joke and a worst student. However in episode 26 after dan challenges Athena to a rematch, he won against her and Athena does not show any dislike of dan anymore and be nice to him and became friends.

- Athena is also the first character in the series to evolve a Bakugan using an elemental core.
- Athena is similar to Sasha Guten from Beyblade Burst Evolution: They both are the best student in their respective teams, both at first disliked the main protagonist of the show but became good friends with them, and becoming the top best student in their own season and are quick to anger sometimes.
- According to her, none of the others at the academy are at her level when it comes to brawling as she is one of the three top students at the academy.
